History
Completed in 1926 and originally named after Sir George Scott, the market was designed as a modern covered bazaar for colonial Rangoon's merchants and craftsmen. Its Indo-Saracenic architecture — with cobblestone interior lanes — made it one of the city's most distinctive buildings. Renamed Bogyoke Aung San Market after independence, it has served generations of traders selling lacquerware, gems, textiles, and antiques to locals and visitors alike.
