The University of Yangon is Myanmar's oldest and most prestigious university, founded in 1920. Its stunning colonial-era campus along the Hlaing River is an architectural landmark.
History
Established in 1920 as the University of Rangoon, it was the first modern university in British Burma and a centre of nationalist thought. Alumni include independence hero Aung San, UN Secretary-General U Thant, and generations of Myanmar's political and intellectual leaders.
