History
The teak mansion was built in the 1920s in the Dagon area and later served as a guest house for visiting officials. After independence it housed Karen State government guests before falling into disrepair. Restored and opened as a boutique hotel in 1997 under Orient-Express (now Belmond), it preserved the colonial architecture, lotus ponds, and fan-cooled verandas that evoke the elegance of old Rangoon's diplomatic quarter.
